Getting your kids to start thinking about things they would like to accomplish

Activity 6 in The Ultimate Kid’s Guide to Happiness is all about getting your kids to start thinking about things they would like to accomplish and writing those goals down.
Research shows that only a very small percentage of the population actually write down their goals, and studies also prove we are 50% more likely to achieve our goals by writing them down and we are 200% more likely to accomplish our goals if we review them on a regular basis.
It seems that when we mindfully write down the things we want, whether to do well on a math test, get along better with siblings or become a better baseball player, we start to receive inspired thoughts about what actions we can take toward achieving our goal.
You can support your child in this activity by helping them come up with five goals they would like to set for themselves. Try not to pick the goal for them, rather get them to start thinking for themselves about what they want to accomplish and what action they might take to get started. All kids have desires and intentions and adding the tool of writing down those goals introduces them to this powerful tool and how they can use their innate ability to take inspired action.
Writing down the things we want to achieve, the things we want to have in our life and who we want to be has incredible power and has not only been heavily researched but proven by millions of people who have developed the habit of writing down their desires.
As all habits are developed through repetition of a particular activity or behavior, instilling the habit of written goal setting works the same way. Many experts believe that a habit can be formed by repeating an activity or behavior for 30 days and some believe 60 to 90 days. Either way, the goal should be just to develop the habit of writing down our goals.
An Exercise in Happiness© is a 30 day program designed to help kids instill habits of goal setting and action taking through setting daily short-term goals and writing an Action Affirmation. An Action Affirmation helps kids recognize the effort needed to achieve their goals and that they really can achieve their goal because they KNOW THEY CAN.
The very important message that An Exercise in Happiness© reveals to children about success and achievement is that they may feel that achievement and success will make them happier, but the reality is that they are far more likely to be successful and achieve their dreams if they are happy and grateful first. Happiness leads to success, not the other way around.
